After my whistle stop trip to Georgia, the next leg of the journey takes me to the UK, to briefly catch up with friends and family.
First stop.. London, staying in one of the Z Hotels, in Orange Street, literally a 2 minute walk from Leicester Square. Z hotels are small, with compact rooms kitted out with all you need for a quick stay. it was perfect for me on a 12 hour stay in London and at £85 was a bargain given its location.
A quick shower, then out into the unseasonably warm evening for a stroll around Leicester Square, Trafalgar Square, Soho and China Town, before a decent pasta at Little India.
Is it just me, or have the quality of buskers in the streets just gone downhill? I used to enjoy walking around on an evening listening to the different styles of music. I have to say, given its prime location spot in Leicester Square, I was disappointed with what I saw and heard. Check out the WhatsApp posts for some examples. There was one guy slightly off the beaten track who was pretty good. What I found novel was the £3.00 tap and go auto tip he had set up in front of him. It seemed to work quite well.
The next morning it was a quick trip over to Paddington to catch up with my old boss Malcolm Keys, who is firmly settled in London with Boldyn Networks, formally part of my old company BAI before we split into northern and southern hemispheres earlier this year. It was great to reminisce over old times in the start up days of Airwave Australia and refelct on where things are now.
You can blame Malcolm for this Blog. When he heard I was going to document my travels online he challenged me to 'Do it properly' and write a blog, not just WhatsApp posts. So..... here we are!!
After the brief stop in London it was time to pick up the hire car and head north on the M1 to Yorkshire and my family. I found the M1 to be much more civilised and sedate than i remember... I guess the constant speed cameras have had a positive effect on drive behaviour after all.
The rest of the week was spent mostly in private time with my Mum and Dad, who are 88 and 85 years old respectively. I hope that I am as alert and enjoying life as much as they are when I'm that age... if I get that far!
To close this weeks blog I've included some pics of my 'tourist day' in York, checking out the sights. It's fitting that this trip includes old York... for reasons that will be obvious in future Blogs :)
Enjoy the pics and have a great week!
